Ventless Range
Hoods

Do you have a cook top or stove that needs some sort of fan
to help vent the cooking fumes or smoke from your food
preparation? Do you want to add a cook top to your island
for more cooking area? If so, and there is no ducting in
the area that you want to remodel, you will need to look for
ventless
range hoods to install over your stove or
cooktop. The best thing about buying a ventless range
hood is the price. Because you do not have the added
attachments for venting and blowing the cooking fumes through
an exterior flue or vent, the whole system costs less.
Ventless systems are often used in smaller kitchens or older
homes that do not have venting in the kitchen at all. If
you are remodeling your kitchen and want to move the location
of your stove, you will not be able to use the original venting
area. Short of a major renovation and relocation of the
vents you will need to use a ventless range hood to help keep
the grease particles and smoke particles from coating your
cabinets and counter tops.
Normal vented range hoods have self cleaning filters and
require less routine maintenance and cleaning than ventless
range hoods. Ventless hoods have two types of filters, an
electrostatic filter designed to remove particles from the air
via electrostatic collection and a charcoal filter to eliminate
odors. These filters require regular cleaning and
changing to keep it efficient at removing the odors.
There are several manufacturers of ventless range
hoods including Amana, Hotpoint, Summit, Frigidaire,
Broan and Nutone starting at under $50. These range hoods
have a two speed fan and one or two lights depending on the
size and start with 30” models for most manufacturers.
Summit makes models starting with 20” and go up to 36” for
larger kitchens. You can even order custom sizes for odd
size locations in your kitchen.
